Karkala: Poultry payment dispute turns violent; four arrested by Ajekar police

Karkala, Mar 27: A dispute over poultry payment escalated into violence in Udupi district, with Ajekar police arresting four individuals in connection with a mutual assault case.

The arrested have been identified as Pratap Poojary (32) of Bairampalli Harikhandige, Dilip Shetty (28) of Siribailu in Kadthala village, Sudarshan Shetty (36) of Muttupady, and Akash (21) of Moodukudooru in Varanga village, police said.

According to reports, the incident occurred on March 26 at around 8 pm at Muttupady in Andaru village, when a group of about 15 persons, including Harish, Sudheer, Durga, Gurudeesh, and Pratap, arrived in cars and motorcycles and allegedly assaulted Sudarshan Shetty.

When Padma and Akash attempted to intervene, Harish allegedly hurled caste-based abuses and assaulted them. It is further reported that Akash was also attacked during the altercation.

Police said cases have been registered in connection with the incident, and further investigation is under way.
