Ramanath Rai expresses hurt over privilege motion raised by Bantwal MLA

Mangaluru, Mar 28: Former minister Ramanath Rai expressed disappointment over the breach of privilege motion moved by the Bantwal MLA in the Legislative Assembly, stating that development works in a constituency through the district in-charge minister is a normal practice.

Speaking at a press conference in Mangaluru, Rai said that bringing funds for Scheduled Caste colonies and then creating an issue in the Assembly and moving a breach of privilege motion reflects a narrow mindset. He said there was nothing new about carrying out development works in the constituency with the support of the government and ministers.

Rai pointed out that earlier, funds were not being sanctioned under the MLA Local Area Development Fund, but now each MLA is being sanctioned Rs 10 crore. He said MLAs can undertake development works at their discretion using this grant.

He also questioned why Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s photo should be put on cutouts for development works carried out under state government funds.

Several leaders including Shashidhar Hegde, Shubhodaya Alva, Appi Dinesh Kumar, Suhan Alva, Ramananda Poojary, Fayaz, Ashok DK, Premananda Ballal Bagh, and Vikas Shetty were present at the press conference
