Mumbai, Apr 6: Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, who is preparing for the release of his upcoming film Main Vapas Aaunga, has opened up about collaborating once again with Punjabi star Diljit Dosanjh.
The film marks their second collaboration after Amar Singh Chamkila, in which Diljit portrayed the legendary Punjabi folk singer.
Speaking during promotions, Imtiaz Ali described Diljit as an artiste with exceptional depth and authenticity. He praised the actor for his strong connection to his roots, noting that his performances reflect a sense of purity, humanity, and lived experience.

Ali highlighted that Diljit brings multiple layers to his craft, making him a compelling presence on screen. He also pointed out that despite Diljit’s humility about not considering himself an actor, his achievements—including international recognition—place him among the finest performers.
Discussing Main Vapas Aaunga, the director said the film explores themes of separation, the Partition of India, and the emotional aftermath that followed. He added that Diljit’s contemporary perspective and personal sensibilities play a significant role in shaping the film’s emotional core.
According to Ali, while Amar Singh Chamkila was deeply rooted in the past, the new film reflects present-day realities, making Diljit’s voice in the story even more relevant and impactful.
The film is produced by Applause Entertainment and Window Seat Films, and is scheduled for a theatrical release on June 12, 2026.
