Priyanka Gandhi defends Pawan Khera amid Assam controversy

Daijiworld Media Network - New Delhi

New Delhi, Apr 8: The political storm over Congress leader Pawan Khera has intensified after his allegations against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s family led to police action, prompting a strong defense from Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra condemned the police operation, calling it politically motivated and a threat to democratic values. On X, she said the attack on Khera reflected “arrogance and guilt” and highlighted the importance of questioning authority as a foundation of democracy.

Assam Police have been actively tracing Khera, who faces charges including forgery, defamation, and criminal conspiracy following a complaint by Chief Minister Sarma’s wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sharma. She has dismissed Khera’s claims as fabricated and malicious.

Khera, in a video message, vowed not to be intimidated and criticized the Assam government for allegedly using police to silence opposition voices instead of investigating the allegations. Police searches at his Delhi residence and reported movements to Hyderabad have further escalated the political confrontation.

The Congress party has rallied behind Khera, framing the case as a broader attack on freedom of expression and democratic rights.
