Mangaluru, Apr 11: Despite being married and having three children, a financier who had long felt the void of not completing his PU education has now successfully passed the II PUC examination in his middle age, alongside his younger son, thereby fulfilling a 42-year-old dream.

Mohan Raj Amin, a resident of Koliya Kanneerthota in Ullal taluk, who runs a chit fund business, appeared for the II PUC examination this year. Inspired by the thought that completing his own PU education might encourage his son to take greater interest in studies, he took the exam and passed in his first attempt. He secured 324 marks in six subjects in the arts stream and passed in second class, celebrating the achievement along with his son’s results.

Mohan Raj had completed his high school education at Anandashram High School in Koliya and pursued his first PUC at Madani College in Ullal in 1984. However, he could not continue his II PUC studies at the time due to lack of a supportive environment, poverty, and the burden of family responsibilities, which forced him to take up work. Though he later got married, raised children, and achieved success in his business through hard work, completing his PU education remained unfulfilled.

Nevertheless, Mohan Raj ensured that his children did not miss out on education. His elder daughter Prithvirekha is a BSc graduate and is employed in the private sector, while his second daughter Prakruthi has completed her diploma and is also working in a private job. His younger son, Kshitij Raj, who appeared for the II PUC examination this year, has passed in first class in the commerce stream.

By clearing the II PUC examination at this stage of life, Mohan Raj has set an example for the younger generation, demonstrating that with determination, neither poverty nor age can become a barrier to achievement.

Those at the examination centre were initially surprised when Mohan Raj arrived at the government college in Mudipu to write the exam. The teachers on duty and students present were taken aback, but once he explained his purpose, they extended full support and encouragement for his effort.

Mohan Raj had begun preparing for the II PUC examination from November last year. He attended coaching at a private tutorial institute in Thokkottu from 8 am to 11 am and also in the evenings. His wife Mamata extended complete support and encouragement throughout his preparation. Completing his discontinued PU education had been his dream for the past 42 years, which he has now successfully realised.

Mohan Raj Amin said that it is the responsibility of parents to create a supportive environment for children to pursue education. He added that parents should not impose strict targets on children to secure specific marks, as it may make education feel like a burden to them.
