Moodbidri, Apr 20: Police have arrested an accused who had been absconding for nearly four years without appearing before the court for trial.

The arrested individual has been identified as K Abdul Basheer alias Arga Basheer (50). Cases had been registered against him in police stations across Dakshina Kannada and Chikkamagaluru districts. He had been evading court proceedings for about four years, following which the court had issued an arrest warrant against him.

The accused had left his residence in Arga house at Tenkamijaru village along with his family and was staying in a rented house at Parlia near BC Road. Acting on credible information, police took him into custody on April 18. More than 17 cases, including those under the Cow Slaughter Prohibition Act and the Indian Arms Act, are registered against him.
