Turkey may join Hormuz demining after Iran-US peace deal: FM Fidan

Daijiworld Media Network - Ankara

Ankara, Apr 25: Turkey has indicated it may participate in demining operations in the Strait of Hormuz following a potential peace agreement between Iran and the United States.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, speaking to reporters in London, said such efforts would be viewed positively as a humanitarian responsibility.

He noted that mine-clearing operations would be carried out by a technical team comprising members from multiple countries, likely formed after any Iran-US agreement.

Fidan said Turkey would have “no problem” contributing to such operations under those conditions. However, he cautioned that Ankara would reassess its participation if the coalition became involved in renewed conflict.

He also expressed optimism that issues related to Iran’s nuclear programme could be addressed in the next round of talks expected to take place in Pakistan.

Further developments are awaited as diplomatic engagements continue
