Panaji, May 1: The Union Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has appointed noted filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker as the Festival Director for the 57th edition of the International Film Festival of India, scheduled to be held in Goa in November.
Expressing his gratitude, Gowariker said he feels privileged to have witnessed the evolution of the festival over the years. “From attending it in 1984 to continuing my association over the years, right up to 2024 when I served as the Jury President for International Cinema, it has been a remarkable journey,” he said.

He added that taking forward the legacy of the festival, which has been nurtured since 1952, comes with both honour and responsibility. Gowariker also said he looks forward to working closely with the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and the Goa government for the successful events.
Gowariker is known for directing acclaimed films such as Lagaan, Swades and Jodhaa Akbar.
