Mangaluru, May 7: The Mangaluru city police have successfully apprehended an accused involved in cattle slaughter and theft cases, who had been evading court appearances and absconding for the past eight years.

The arrested individual has been identified as Abubakkar Siddique alias 'Kapri Siddique', a resident of Uppala in Kasargod district, Kerala.

Serious cases related to theft and violations of the anti-cow slaughter act were registered against him at the Ullal, Konaje, and Kankanady city police stations. Following his failure to appear in court, non-bailable warrants (NBWs) were issued against him. However, he had managed to evade the police and remained absconding since 2018.

A special squad was formed by the Mangaluru City Police Commissioner to track down absconding warrant offenders. Acting on precise information regarding his movements, a team led by PSI Siddappa and his staff conducted a successful operation to capture him. Siddique was a prime accused in a 2017 theft case under the Ullal police station limits, as well as cattle slaughter cases in the Konaje and Kankanady station limits.

Following his arrest, Abubakkar Siddique was handed over to the Ullal police for further legal proceedings. He was subsequently produced before the court, which remanded him to judicial custody. The special police squad has garnered public appreciation for successfully tracing the long-absconding accused.
