Mumbai, May 8: Actors Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan are set to reunite after more than two decades, this time as producer and actor respectively, for Netflix’s upcoming crime drama Kartavya.
The two had earlier shared screen space in Karan Johar’s popular film Kal Ho Naa Ho, released 23 years ago.
Speaking at the trailer launch event of Kartavya on Thursday, Saif Ali Khan opened up about his long-standing association with Shah Rukh Khan and praised his approach as a producer.

“I’ve had a lovely and long association with Shah Rukh. He’s someone I look up to in many ways,” Saif said.
The actor revealed that Shah Rukh personally approached him about the project and encouraged him to listen to the script.
“He said there was a lovely script and that he would like me to hear it and do the film. I met director Pulkit and went through the process. After the shoot, Shah Rukh watched the film and told me he was very happy with it,” Saif shared.
Saif also highlighted Shah Rukh’s production style, saying the superstar prefers to give directors full creative freedom instead of interfering in the filmmaking process.
“I didn’t meet him on set because he believes directors should be free to make the film they want. He understands that certain presences can become overwhelming on set. He gave us enough space to make the film we envisioned,” he added.
Directed by Pulkit and produced by Gauri Khan under the banner of Red Chillies Entertainment, Kartavya is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on May 15.
The film also features Rasika Dugal, Sanjay Mishra, Zakir Hussain, Manish Chaudhari and Saurabh Dwivedi in pivotal roles.
Described as a character-driven crime drama, Kartavya explores themes of justice, morality and consequences against the backdrop of an intense investigation.
