Trump says US tracking Iran’s enriched uranium as war of words escalates

Daijiworld Media Network - Washington

Washington, May 11: US President Donald Trump has said that American authorities are closely monitoring Iranian enriched uranium reportedly buried under rubble, warning that any attempt to access it would be detected and met with force.

In an interview with independent journalist Sharyl Attkisson, recorded last week and aired on Sunday, Trump claimed that the United States Space Force is involved in tracking the materials. He further stated that if anyone tries to reach the uranium stockpile, the United States would “know about it and blow them up,” according to excerpts cited in reports.

Trump also asserted that US forces were capable of striking “every single target” in Iran within two weeks, claiming that about 70 percent of designated targets had already been hit. He added that remaining targets could still be struck if necessary, describing Iran as “militarily defeated.”

The remarks come amid continued diplomatic exchanges between Washington and Tehran over proposals aimed at ending the ongoing conflict. Iran’s official news agency Islamic Republic News Agency reported that Tehran sent its latest response to US proposals via mediator Pakistan.

According to the report, discussions are currently focused on broader steps toward ending hostilities in the region. Iran’s draft proposal, as cited by the semi-official Tasnim News Agency, calls for an immediate end to all conflict, guarantees against future attacks, lifting of US sanctions and naval restrictions, and a 30-day timeline for easing restrictions on Iranian oil exports. It also demands the release of frozen Iranian assets following an initial agreement.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has maintained that any agreement would require Iran to clearly demonstrate that it is not pursuing nuclear weapons, which remains a key condition for Washington in any peace framework.

The situation follows months of escalating confrontation, including reported joint strikes by the United States and Israel on Iranian targets earlier this year, which Iranian authorities say led to significant casualties, including senior officials and civilians. Iran subsequently responded with missile and drone attacks in the region and increased security measures around strategic waterways such as the Strait of Hormuz.

As diplomatic exchanges continue through intermediaries, both sides remain far apart on core demands, with tensions persisting alongside competing narratives over military escalation and nuclear concerns.
