Beltangady: Hospital patient found dead outside govt hospital, negligence alleged

Daijiworld Media Network – Beltangady

Beltangady, May 11: A patient who had been admitted for treatment at the government hospital in Beltangady was found dead in the hospital premises, with allegations emerging that negligence by hospital staff led to the incident.

The deceased has been identified as Achyutha (42), a resident of Pelattaje in Puduvettu village. He had been admitted to the Beltangady taluk public government hospital on May 10 afternoon following complaints of stomach pain.

According to reports, Achyutha went out of the hospital alone at around 5 am on Monday and later collapsed near the dialysis centre located behind the hospital building. He was found dead there.

Members of the public have alleged that hospital staff were negligent in allowing a patient undergoing treatment to leave the ward unattended, leading to his death.

Achyutha belonged to a poor family. His wife works as a daily wage labourer and the couple has two children.

It is very sad to hear that a poor man lost his life due to alleged negligence at the government hospital in Beltangady. The authorities should conduct a proper investigation into the incident and take appropriate action if negligence is confirmed. The government should also provide compensation and support to his wife and children during this difficult time.

A poor man goes to a government hospital hoping for care, safety, and dignity — not to lose his life alone and unattended. Achyutha’s death is not just a family’s tragedy, it is a painful reminder of how the common people are often neglected despite paying taxes throughout their lives. Hospitals are not buildings made of walls and machines alone; they are built on responsibility, humanity, and accountability. If a patient under treatment can walk out unnoticed and die within the premises, then the system has failed in its basic duty to protect life. The real strength of a society is seen in how it treats its poorest citizens. Achyutha leaves behind a struggling wife and two children, whose pain cannot be erased by excuses. Every life matters equally, whether rich or poor. This incident should awaken both authorities and society. We need better healthcare monitoring, responsible staff, and above all, compassion. A nation that cannot safeguard its needy people must seriously question its priorities.

Sad to hear this.We hear always patients in govt.hospitals are not cared good unless some money has to be paid ,even medicines are also not available .This particular patient must have suffering a lot and proper exams or attention was not paid?So he must have gone outside to breath fresh air and collapsed there?May God give his soul rest in peace.Heartfelt sympathies to his family.
