Chandigarh, May 14: Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh has reportedly been travelling on a United States passport since 2022 after acquiring American citizenship, according to a report published by The Indian Express.
The report stated that Dosanjh no longer holds Indian citizenship and has been entering India on an e-visa since September 2022, indicating that he also does not possess an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card.

It further claimed that the actor-singer used his US passport during his recent visits to India.
The development has sparked widespread attention as Dosanjh continues to remain one of the most prominent Indian-origin entertainers globally, with a public image strongly associated with Punjabi identity and culture.
Over the years, the singer has frequently referred to himself as “Main Hoon Punjab” — a phrase that became closely linked with his persona — though he has never publicly spoken about renouncing Indian citizenship or obtaining US nationality.
Interestingly, Dosanjh has continued to work extensively in Indian cinema even after reportedly becoming a US citizen.
Earlier this year, he joined the cast of Border 2, portraying Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, the only Indian Air Force officer to receive the Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest wartime gallantry award.
According to the report, Dosanjh’s last Indian passport was issued in Mumbai in 2018, while an earlier passport had reportedly been issued in Zambia.
The report also stated that his wife, Sandeep Kaur, is a US citizen and that Dosanjh had listed a luxury bungalow in California as his residential address while obtaining American citizenship.
The revelation comes shortly after a Punjab-based group comprising retired IAS officers, defence personnel and professionals urged the singer to enter politics and assume a leadership role in the state.
Dosanjh, however, declined the appeal through a brief message on X, stating, “Kadey v nahi. Mera kaam entertainment karna” (Never. My only job is to entertain).
Born in Punjab’s Dosanjh Kalan village, Diljit Dosanjh rose to fame through hit albums including G.O.A.T., MoonChild Era, Ghost and Ishq Da Uda Ada. He later emerged as one of the biggest stars in Punjabi cinema and music while also gaining national recognition through films such as Udta Punjab and international visibility through appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and performances at Coachella.
