Mangaluru, May 21: The orientation programme for the second year PU students for the academic year 2026-27 was held at St Aloysius PU College. The programme encouraged students to step into a new phase of learning with confidence, discipline, and a renewed commitment to explore their potential and strive for meaningful success. The programme began with a prayer service, invoking God’s blessings and guidance upon the students as they embarked on their academic journey.
The principal, Fr Clifford Sequeira SJ, in his address, emphasised the importance of using time wisely and preparing responsibly for the future. Comparing life to the work of a sculptor shaping stone into a masterpiece, he encouraged students to face challenges with courage, learn from every experience, and continuously grow in character and knowledge. He reminded the students that by remaining open to learning, developing new skills, balancing values with academics, and living with purpose, they can build confidence and shape a meaningful and successful future in a rapidly changing world.

Motivational sessions were conducted separately for the science, commerce, and arts streams. Preetham Kamath, facilitator, behavioral trainer, and counsellor, addressed the students of the Science stream. She encouraged students to choose confidence over fear through consistent preparation, practice, discipline, and positive thinking. Stressing that there are no shortcuts to success, she highlighted the importance of effective time management, avoiding distractions and excessive gadget usage, staying focused on goals, and making wise decisions. She also encouraged students to surround themselves with positive and supportive people while maintaining healthy boundaries, reminding them that true growth comes through collaboration, kindness, creativity, and mutual support rather than unhealthy competition.
Preetham further stressed the value of seeking guidance from parents and teachers, taking care of one’s physical and mental well-being through healthy habits and self-care, and remaining disciplined and determined in life. Concluding her session with the powerful message that 'less distractions lead to more success', she motivated students to stay focused, responsible, and committed in their journey toward excellence and holistic growth.
Divya D’Souza, entrepreneur, NLP master practitioner, and life and business catalyst, addressed the students of the commerce and arts streams. She delivered an inspiring and insightful session focusing on emotional well-being, self-discipline, and personal growth. She spoke about the importance of understanding emotions in friendships and maintaining healthy and balanced relationships with maturity.
Stressing the significance of physical and mental well-being, she highlighted the need for at least eight hours of sleep, explaining that proper rest helps in emotional control, concentration, and maintaining a positive mindset. Sharing a powerful message on failure, she reminded students that 'failure is an event, not an identity', and explained that failure is an important part of growth and success.
Through the message 'Face – Learn – Adjust – Restart', she motivated students to accept challenges, learn from mistakes, think differently, make necessary changes, and begin again with confidence and determination. She also encouraged students to overcome distractions by using reset techniques to regain focus and emotional balance, advising them to carefully examine problems, take small but meaningful steps toward positive change, and measure their character through perseverance and resilience.
Concluding her session with an inspiring message to never give up, Divya motivated students to remain strong, focused, and determined in the face of challenges and setbacks.
Present on the occasion were Fr Anthony Derrick SJ, campus minister; vice principal Muralikrishna GM; deans Kiran Shetty and Inas Dais; and the convenors of the programme, Sharitha D’Silva and Veekshitha U. Niha Fahim from the department of chemistry compered the programme.
