Udupi: CMC clears illegal vendors from Manipal bus stop footpath, restores pedestrian access

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi

Udupi, May 22: In a civic enforcement drive aimed at easing congestion and improving pedestrian safety, the Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC) removed illegal street vendors operating on the footpath near the busy Manipal bus stop.

Acting on public complaints regarding obstruction and inconvenience, officials found that several vegetable sellers and sweet corn vendors had set up unauthorised stalls along the walkway.

The encroachments allegedly occupied a significant portion of the footpath, causing difficulties for pedestrians, students, office-goers and passengers using the heavily frequented bus stop.

Following the complaints, CMC officials, along with municipal staff and with assistance from Manipal police, conducted an on-site inspection and cleared the temporary vending structures from the footpath. Vendors were instructed not to resume business activities in unauthorised public spaces and were warned of strict action in case of repeated violations.

After the clearance operation, the footpath area around the Manipal bus stop was restored for free pedestrian movement, improving accessibility and safety for commuters and the general public.
