Kundapur, May 25: In connection with a road accident that claimed the lives of two women pilgrims from Kerala at Dali in Kollur village limits of Byndoor taluk on May 17, the Kollur police have arrested a man for allegedly stealing gold ornaments from one of the deceased.
Based on a complaint lodged by Sreekumar stating that gold ornaments worn by one of the victims had been stolen from the accident spot, a case was registered at the Kollur police station.

Acting swiftly under the guidance of Kundapur subdivision DySP H D Kulkarni and Byndoor circle police inspector Shivakumar, a police team led by Kollur PSI Vinay M Korlahalli, along with HC Nagendra, HC Lakshman Ganiga, HC Raghavendra, and PC Nagaraj, launched an investigation.
Using CCTV footage, photographs taken by the public at the accident scene, and technical evidence, the police traced and arrested the accused, identified as Hemanth (40), a resident of Kalyanigudde in Kollur village, within 24 hours of registering the case.
The police recovered the stolen ornaments from the accused, which included a gold ring weighing 3.910 grams worth Rs 57,000, a gold bangle weighing 3.450 grams worth Rs 50,000, and a gold chain weighing 7.160 grams worth Rs 1 lac.
The accused was produced before the court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
