Cannes, May 26: Maharashtra’s traditional Paithani heritage took the global spotlight at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival 2026, as designer Mukta Mulay showcased the iconic textile through a curated presentation in collaboration with Femm International.
The showcase highlighted the rich cultural legacy of the royal Paithani weave, known for its intricate handwoven silk patterns and deep historical roots in Maharashtra’s textile tradition. The presentation aimed to bring global recognition to the craftsmanship of Indian artisans while blending heritage aesthetics with contemporary fashion design.

Mukta Mulay’s collection drew attention for its emphasis on traditional weaving techniques, vibrant motifs, and the preservation of age-old artistry that has been passed down through generations of weavers. The collaboration with Femm International was positioned as an effort to promote sustainable and heritage-based fashion on international platforms.
