Nanded, May 26: A wedding in Maharashtra’s Nanded district turned into a rare act of social welfare after the groom’s family extended accident insurance coverage to the entire village as part of the celebrations.

The event took place in Bahadurpura village during the wedding of Siddheshwar Pethkar and Manjusha Pethkar.

Amid the wedding festivities, the Pethkar family took an unusual step by insuring nearly 3,500 residents of Bahadurpura village, ensuring financial assistance in case of any accidental emergencies.

The initiative has been widely appreciated as a gesture of community welfare, with many describing it as an example of social responsibility beyond the celebration of marriage.

Reacting to the initiative, Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora praised the move, saying the gesture of providing accident insurance to thousands of villagers as a wedding gift was inspiring. He also recalled a similar initiative undertaken during his own wedding.

“More power to such thoughtful young Indians for choosing compassion over excess,” Deora said in a post on X.

The gesture also received strong reactions on social media, with users lauding the family for stepping in to provide support often expected from government welfare systems.

Several users described the act as commendable, while others noted that it highlighted the gap between public expectations and actual welfare delivery.
