Jaipur, May 27: Rajasthan remains in the grip of an intense heatwave, with several districts witnessing dangerously high temperatures over the last 24 hours. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Sri Ganganagar emerged as the hottest location in the state, recording a scorching maximum temperature of 47 degrees Celsius.

Kota registered the highest night temperature at 33.6 degrees Celsius, while Sirohi remained relatively cooler with the lowest minimum temperature of 22.8 degrees Celsius.

The IMD’s Jaipur centre has issued an Orange Alert, cautioning residents about severe heatwave conditions and unusually warm nights likely to persist for the next two to three days. Officials stated that most parts of Rajasthan are expected to continue experiencing temperatures between 44 degrees Celsius and 46 degrees Celsius until May 28.

In some isolated pockets of the Bikaner, Kota, and Shekhawati regions, temperatures could climb further to 46–47 degrees Celsius. Border areas in western Rajasthan are likely to face the harshest conditions, with mercury levels potentially touching 48 degrees Celsius on May 27 and 28, said Radheshyam Sharma, Director of IMD Jaipur.

The department also warned that elevated nighttime temperatures could worsen heat-related stress, especially for children, elderly people, and those with existing medical conditions.

However, weather officials indicated that relief may soon arrive due to the influence of a fresh Western Disturbance. The IMD has forecast thunderstorm and rainfall activity in parts of Rajasthan beginning May 28.

The weather system is expected to become more active between May 29 and May 31, bringing strong dust storms, gusty winds of 60–70 kmph, and scattered rainfall across several divisions, including Jaipur, Bharatpur, Kota, Ajmer, Udaipur, Jodhpur, and Bikaner.

Meteorologists believe the combined impact of rain and thunderstorms could bring down temperatures by around 2–3 degrees Celsius from May 29 onward, providing much-needed respite from the prolonged heatwave.

The weather department has urged residents to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, and remain cautious of sudden weather changes such as dust storms and high-speed winds.
