Jammu, May 27: The anti-terror operation underway in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district entered its fourth day on Wednesday, as Northern Army Commander Lt General Pratik Sharma visited the operational area to assess the situation and review ongoing efforts under “Operation Sheruwali.”

According to the Nagrota-headquartered Army command, Lt General Sharma visited the Gambhir Mughlan region for an operational review and situational assessment of the ongoing counter-terror mission.

During the visit, the Army Commander held discussions with senior representatives from various security and intelligence agencies, including the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, Intelligence Bureau (IB), and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), to evaluate evolving operational challenges and enhance inter-agency coordination.

He also interacted with troops deployed in the area and praised their determination, morale, and commitment while operating under difficult conditions in dense forest terrain.

The Army stated that Lt General Sharma stressed the importance of maintaining operational focus, precision, and coordinated action while pursuing the mission objectives.

The encounter began on Sunday in the forests of Dorimal Gambhir Mughlan after joint security forces launched a cordon and search operation (CASO) based on intelligence inputs regarding the presence of terrorists in the area.

Security agencies believe that two to three terrorists are currently trapped within the cordoned zone. Reports suggest that the group may include Pakistani nationals Abu Hamza and Iliyas Fauji, both allegedly linked to previous attacks on security forces in the Rajouri region during 2023 and 2024.

However, officials have not yet issued any formal confirmation regarding the identities of the terrorists involved.

The ongoing operation is part of intensified counter-insurgency efforts in the Poonch-Rajouri belt, an area that has witnessed several militant incidents and anti-terror operations in recent years.

“Operation Sheruwali” is being closely monitored as security forces continue search and engagement efforts in the rugged forest region.
