Beltangady, May 28: In a swift operation based on credible intelligence, Venur police have arrested two men for allegedly transporting MDMA, a banned narcotic substance, in a car from Guruvayanakere towards Moodbidri, while a third accused remains absconding.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Tanveer (27), a resident of Handelu in Puttige village of Mangaluru taluk, and Mohammad Salwan (22), a resident of Kallabettu in Moodbidri.

Acting on specific information received by Venur police sub-inspector Akshay Dvagi, a naka bandi was set up on May 27 near Kambaladadda along the Guruvayanakere–Moodbidri Road, where vehicles were stopped and thoroughly checked.

During the operation, police intercepted an i20 car bearing registration number KA-13-P-2905. On inspection, officers recovered 4 grams of MDMA, reportedly meant for sale. Police estimated the seized contraband to be worth around Rs 40,000.

During questioning, the accused allegedly admitted that a third person, identified as Hamzath Karar, a resident of Sunnathkere in Kuveittu village of Belthangady taluk, had supplied the narcotic substance for sale.

The arrested duo were produced before a magistrate in Mangaluru on May 28 and remanded to 14 days of judicial custody. Police said the third accused is currently absconding, and a manhunt is underway to trace and apprehend him.
