CBSE class 12 re-evaluation window opens amid OSM row; over 11 lac answer scripts requested

New Delhi, May 29: The CBSE Class 12 re-evaluation window has officially opened, even as the board continues to face widespread criticism over its On-Screen Marking (OSM) system and the handling of this year’s board exam results.

The move comes amid growing concern among students and parents, with the post-result process drawing attention due to technical glitches, alleged evaluation errors, and delays in accessing answer scripts.

So far, 4,04,319 students have applied to view their answer sheets, while a total of 11,31,961 answer books have been requested. Out of these, 8,98,214 answer scripts have already been made available digitally. While many students are expected to stop after reviewing their copies, a significant number may proceed further for verification of marks or re-evaluation depending on discrepancies found.

According to Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, nearly 20 per cent of students may ultimately opt for re-evaluation, though the final figure will be known only after the process is completed.

Under the OSM system, answer sheets were evaluated in digital format instead of physical copies, with CBSE stating that the method was introduced to improve transparency and speed.
However, several students have raised concerns on social media, alleging issues such as unchecked answers, missing pages, blurred scans, and server disruptions while accessing their scripts.

In response to mounting criticism, CBSE has revised its fee structure for post-result services. Students will now pay Rs 100 per subject for scanned copies and verification of marks, while re-evaluation will be charged per question. Earlier, the charges were significantly higher, leading to widespread backlash.

CBSE has also clarified that re-evaluation fees will be refunded if a student’s marks increase after review.

To apply, students must first download their scanned answer sheets from the official portal, carefully check for evaluation errors or missing responses, and then apply for verification or re-evaluation where necessary. The board has reiterated that marks may increase, decrease, or remain unchanged after the process, and the final decision will be binding.

The controversy surrounding the OSM system has now widened, with questions being raised over technical glitches, transparency, and alleged cybersecurity concerns. While CBSE has denied any breach in its evaluation system, the debate has continued to intensify on social media and among political circles.

As the re-evaluation window opens, thousands of students are expected to revisit their answer scripts, hoping for clarity and fairness after a turbulent result season.
