Delhi police foil major terror plot; nine suspects with Dawood network links arrested

New Delhi, May 30: In a significant counter-terrorism operation, the Special Cell of Delhi Police has dismantled an alleged terror module that was plotting attacks in Delhi and Mumbai, leading to the arrest of nine individuals with suspected links to the Dawood Ibrahim crime syndicate.

According to officials, the arrested individuals include residents of Delhi and Mumbai, while some are believed to be foreign nationals. Investigators said the group was allegedly preparing high-profile attacks targeting critical infrastructure and public spaces, including airports, railway stations, and nuclear facilities.

Security agencies recovered a substantial cache of arms and ammunition during the operation, highlighting the scale and seriousness of the alleged conspiracy.

Authorities revealed that the module had been under surveillance for several months. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, law enforcement agencies launched a coordinated operation that resulted in the arrests and seizure of weapons.

Intelligence officials have indicated that Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) has increasingly relied on criminal networks, including the Dawood syndicate, to establish locally based operatives capable of carrying out attacks while maintaining plausible deniability.

Following the crackdown, security measures have been heightened across Delhi and surrounding regions, with agencies issuing alerts and strengthening surveillance at sensitive locations.

The arrests come only months after security agencies dismantled a separate terror module in Faridabad that was allegedly planning attacks on similar targets. Intelligence assessments in recent weeks had also warned of potential improvised explosive device (IED) attacks, suicide missions, and lone-wolf shootings in the National Capital Region.

Police units across districts have been directed to remain vigilant and maintain close coordination with central intelligence and security agencies to counter any emerging threats.

Officials also noted that India's security doctrine underwent a significant shift following Operation Sindoor, under which acts of terrorism originating from Pakistan are viewed as acts of war rather than merely cross-border terror incidents.

According to intelligence sources, this policy shift may have prompted hostile elements to increasingly rely on locally recruited modules within India, allowing them to distance themselves from direct involvement in the aftermath of any attack.

Investigations are continuing to determine the full extent of the network, its operational capabilities, and possible links to other extremist or criminal groups.
