New Delhi, Jun 3: Leaders of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), currently governed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), have assured swift and strict action against those found responsible for the Malviya Nagar fire tragedy that claimed 21 lives.
MCD Standing Committee Chairperson Satya Sharma said action would be taken promptly once the investigation report is submitted. She added that responsibility would be fixed within a week of receiving the findings and that negligence would not be tolerated.

Highlighting the severity of the incident, Sharma said several injured victims were undergoing treatment in hospitals and stressed the need to ensure such a tragedy does not recur. She, however, noted that further conclusions could only be drawn after the investigation is completed.
MCD Leader of the House Jay Bhagwan Yadav also demanded strict accountability, stating that mere suspension of officials would not be sufficient. He insisted that those found responsible should be removed from service and face appropriate action.
Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and extended condolences to the bereaved families, while praying for the speedy recovery of the injured. He said the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation and assured that all necessary assistance is being provided to affected families.
Wahi further said that inspection drives will be intensified to prevent such incidents in the future and confirmed that the Prime Minister has announced compensation for the victims.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police have confirmed that 21 people died in the blaze at the multi-storey Lemon Green Restaurant in Malviya Nagar, with 17 of the deceased identified as foreign nationals. Authorities continue to probe the cause of the fire and possible safety lapses.
