Minor landslip reported in Bandaje forest amid early monsoon rains; no threat to habitations

Beltangady, Jun 5: A minor landslip has been reported in the Bandaje forest area under the Kudremukh Wildlife Division following the onset of the southwest monsoon, triggering concern among residents of nearby villages.

According to reports, a section of a hill along with rocks gave way in a remote forest region. The incident was noticed by residents living nearly one kilometre away from the site. Officials clarified that there are no human settlements in the affected forest area.

The Bandaje forest had witnessed a major landslide during the devastating floods of 2019, resulting in widespread damage and disruption. However, no large-scale landslip has occurred in the area since then.

Forest officials said small-scale landslips are not uncommon during the rainy season, as continuous rainfall often loosens soil in hilly terrain. “Such minor soil and rock slips are frequently seen at the beginning of the monsoon. The latest incident is limited in scale and has not created any dangerous situation,” an official from the Beltangady Wildlife Division stated.

Authorities are monitoring the area, while assuring the public that the incident poses no immediate risk to nearby villages or residents.
