Paris, Jun 8: Germany's Alexander Zverev captured his maiden Grand Slam title after defeating Italy's Flavio Cobolli in a thrilling five-set final to win the French Open crown at Roland Garros on Sunday.
The world No. 3 prevailed 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-1 in a gripping contest lasting four hours and 20 minutes on Court Philippe-Chatrier, finally ending his long wait for a major title.
The victory marked a career-defining moment for the 29-year-old German, who had previously finished runner-up at the 2020 US Open, the 2024 French Open and the 2025 Australian Open. It was his fourth Grand Slam final and first major triumph.

With the win, Zverev became the first German man to win the French Open since Henner Henkel in 1937. He also ended a 30-year wait for a German men's Grand Slam singles champion, becoming the first since Boris Becker won the Australian Open in 1996.
Cobolli, appearing in his first Grand Slam final, put up a spirited fight and forced a deciding set after winning the fourth-set tie-break. However, Zverev's experience proved decisive as he dominated the final set to secure the prestigious Roland Garros title.
Despite the defeat, the Italian enjoyed a breakthrough tournament, reaching his first Grand Slam final and earning a place among the world's top 10 players for the first time.
