Mangaluru, Jun 11: Dakshina Kannada (DK) deputy commissioner (DC) Darshan H V has directed all urban local bodies and gram panchayats in the district to immediately remove dangerous and unauthorized flexes, banners, and buntings installed along roads, particularly on road dividers.

With the monsoon having intensified, the deputy commissioner noted that strong winds and heavy rain could cause flexes, banners, and buntings installed on roads and dividers to come loose and fall on vehicles or pedestrians, leading to accidents and possible loss of life. The district administration has received several complaints from the public regarding the issue.

The deputy commissioner has instructed the concerned urban local bodies and gram panchayats to take preventive measures and ensure the immediate removal of such unauthorized installations.

He further stated that penalties and legal action may be initiated against those responsible for putting up unauthorized advertisements.

Warning of strict action, Darshan H V said that any negligence or delay in implementing the order, or any accident resulting from failure to act, would make the concerned officials directly responsible. Disciplinary action would be initiated against them as per the rules.
