Israeli strikes hit Gaza as ceasefire tensions escalate

Gaza, Jun 12: Israeli forces launched fresh aerial and artillery strikes across the Gaza Strip on Thursday, hitting multiple locations amid rising tensions over the ceasefire agreement.

According to local media reports, the strikes targeted areas north of Rafah, east of Khan Younis, the Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza, and Beit Lahiya in the northern Gaza Strip. Gaza authorities alleged that the attacks violated the October 10 ceasefire agreement brokered with the involvement of US President Donald Trump.

The renewed strikes come as diplomatic discussions continue over the next phase of the ceasefire plan. On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at his Florida residence to review developments related to the Gaza peace process.

After the meeting, Trump stated that Hamas would be given a short timeframe to disarm before progressing to the next stage of the agreement, and added that Israel had fully complied with the ceasefire terms.

During the talks, Netanyahu announced the creation of the “Israel Prize for Peace” and named Trump as its first recipient. Trump expressed surprise at the announcement and thanked Netanyahu for the honour.

The latest escalation highlights ongoing uncertainty over the stability of the ceasefire, despite continued diplomatic engagement between key international stakeholders.
