Mumbai, Jun 14: Actress Esha Deol is all set to step into the horror-comedy genre for the first time in her career with the upcoming film Ghunghat. The film marks a significant milestone for the actress, who has previously been seen in romantic dramas, action films and family entertainers but has never explored the increasingly popular horror-comedy space.

Directed by Rajiv S Ruia and produced by Bengaluru-based Devesh Kumar under the banner of Native Cinemas, Ghunghat promises a unique blend of horror, humour, emotions and a socially relevant message.

Speaking about her decision to take on the project, Esha said, “Yes, the genre was definitely a draw. Horror-comedy is entertaining because it blends thrills with humour, and audiences are really enjoying that mix right now. But ultimately, it was the script and the character that convinced me to be a part of the film.”

The actress revealed that beyond its entertainment value, the film carries a powerful message about empowerment and challenging outdated beliefs.

“What attracted me to this film was its strong message about questioning long-held beliefs and finding the courage to bring positive change. While the story is entertaining and filled with humour, emotions and drama, it also talks about empowerment, individuality and the importance of standing up for what you believe in. I feel audiences will enjoy the journey while also taking something meaningful back with them,” she added.

Director Rajiv S Ruia is known for successfully handling diverse genres over the years. He earned widespread recognition with the popular My Friend Ganesha franchise, which became a favourite among children and family audiences. He also directed films such as *Main Krishna Hoon*, *Direct Ishq*, and the horror thriller *Saansein*. His experience in both family entertainers and horror-based films makes him a fitting choice to helm Ghunghat.

According to the makers, Ghunghat has been designed as a complete entertainer that combines spooky moments, comedy, drama and emotions while delivering a meaningful social message. The film is expected to present Esha Deol in a never-seen-before avatar, giving audiences an opportunity to see a completely different side of the actress.

Producer Devesh Kumar is backing the project with the vision of creating a film that appeals to audiences across age groups while balancing entertainment and substance.
