Kasargod: Two Kottayam students drown at Bekal beach, two others rescued

Kasargod, Jun 15: Two students from Kottayam, who had come on a leisure trip, drowned in the sea near Palli Kere Beach close to Bekal Fort on Sunday evening. Two other students were rescued from danger.

The deceased students have been identified as Ankith (20) and Appu T Abraham (20), both residents of Changanassery in Kottayam district.

The incident occurred at around 6.30 pm on Sunday. A group of six students had arrived at the beach for an outing, and four of them reportedly entered the sea.

The students had come to visit Bekal Fort. Search operations for the missing students were launched immediately. However, despite efforts continuing until late in the night, the two students could not be traced.

Personnel from the Coast Guard, Fire and Rescue Services, and local residents are participating in the search operation.
