Udupi, June 17: More than 700 beneficiaries in Udupi district are set to receive benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PM-VBRY) as part of a nationwide employment-linked incentive initiative to be launched by the Union government on June 19.

The Prime Minister will preside over the national benefit distribution programme under PM-VBRY at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on June 19. During the event, benefits amounting to Rs 2,400 crore will be disbursed to eligible beneficiaries across the country under the scheme, Regional Provident Fund Commissioner Shashikant Dahiya said.

Addressing reporters at a press conference held at the EPFO Regional Office in Udupi on June 17, Dahiya said PM-VBRY is a flagship employment-linked incentive scheme of the Government of India aimed at promoting formal employment, enhancing employability and strengthening social security coverage.

With a total budgetary outlay of Rs 99,446 crore, the scheme is expected to facilitate the creation of more than 3.5 crore employment opportunities across the country, he said.

As part of the nationwide programme, the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), Regional Office, Udupi, will organise a parallel event on June 19 at 4.30 pm at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Hall, Rajathadri, Manipal.

The programme will feature a live telecast of the Prime Minister’s address, interaction with beneficiaries and employers, and the distribution of appointment letters to newly employed workers by participating establishments.

Under Part A of PM-VBRY, first-time employees joining EPFO-covered establishments with monthly wages of up to Rs 1 lac are eligible for financial assistance equivalent to one month's wages, subject to a maximum of Rs 15,000, upon fulfilment of prescribed conditions.

In Udupi district, more than 700 beneficiaries have been identified under Part A of the scheme and are expected to receive assistance. The event will also see participating employers hand over appointment letters to newly recruited employees, underscoring the scheme’s focus on employment generation and the formalisation of the workforce.

Kota Srinivas Poojary, member of Parliament for the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha constituency, will attend the programme as the chief guest, while Yashpal A Suvarna, MLA of the Udupi Assembly constituency, will be the guest of honour.

The programme is expected to witness participation from employers, employees, beneficiaries, industry representatives and other stakeholders from across the district.
