Puttur: Two arrested for alleged illegal cattle transport

Puttur, Jun 18: Uppinangady police have arrested two persons for allegedly transporting cattle illegally and in a cruel manner in an Eicher lorry. The vehicle was intercepted at Anebail in 34 Nekkilady village. One person who was travelling in the lorry managed to escape, police said.

The arrested have been identified as the prime accused and lorry driver, Fardeen Khan, a resident of Kadur, and Javeed Pasha from Holenarasipura taluk in Hassan district. Another accused, Rehman, fled from the spot and is currently absconding, police said.

The incident came to light when Uppinangady police sub-inspector Sutesh K P, along with his staff, was on early morning rounds on June 17 in the Uppinangady, Matha and Nekkilady areas. The police stopped and inspected an Eicher lorry that was coming from the Hassan side and found that 16 cattle were being transported without any valid documents.

The police seized the cattle and the lorry and registered a case in connection with the incident.

During interrogation, the accused reportedly told the police that they had purchased the cattle at a market in Hassan and were transporting them to Palakkad in Kerala.
