Mumbai, Jun 18: Acclaimed filmmaker Meghna Gulzar’s upcoming thriller Daayra, featuring Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran in lead roles, is set for a theatrical release on September 18, the makers announced on Thursday.

Inspired by true events, Daayra explores themes of crime, justice and punishment, delving into the complexities of the legal system and moral accountability.

The film marks the first on-screen collaboration between Bollywood actor Kareena Kapoor Khan and Malayalam superstar Prithviraj Sukumaran. Both actors will be seen portraying police officers in the thriller.

The screenplay has been penned by Yash Keswani, Sima Agarwal and Meghna Gulzar, who is known for directing critically acclaimed films based on real-life incidents.

According to the makers, Daayra aims to challenge audiences’ perceptions of law and justice, raising thought-provoking questions as the boundaries between the two become increasingly blurred.

Produced by Junglee Pictures and Pen Studios, the film marks Gulzar’s third collaboration with Junglee Pictures following the success of Talvar (2015) and Raazi (2018).

With its gripping premise and star-studded cast, Daayra is expected to be one of the most anticipated releases of the year.
