MAHE hosts national workshop on collaborative wound care, highlights interprofessional healthcare

Udupi, Jul 4: Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), an institution of eminence deemed to be a university, recently organised the ANRF-funded workshop, "Interprofessional wound care mastery: Collaborating for better healing outcomes," at the Manipal College of Nursing (MCON), Manipal.

The programme was organised by the centre of excellence in interprofessional advanced wound care, established in 2023 at the Manipal College of Nursing (MCON), Manipal, as the country's first nurse-led centre dedicated to advanced wound care. The Centre promotes education, research, industry partnerships, and capacity building to advance excellence in wound care. The workshop included four keynote lectures and 18 live hands-on sessions, offering participants practical experience with the latest advancements in wound management.

Welcoming the delegates, Dr Elsa Sanatombi Devi, centre coordinator, outlined the Centre's vision and ongoing initiatives in collaborative wound care. Dr S S Prasad, associate dean, Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Manipal. Professor and head, department of Surgery, attended as the chief guest and highlighted the importance of teamwork and compassionate care in achieving better patient outcomes.

Dr Judith A Noronha, dean, Manipal College of Nursing (MCON), Manipal, emphasised the need for dedicated wound care stations in outpatient departments to strengthen collaborative practice. She was also felicitated for being recognised as a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN). Maj Gen Dr Mathews Jacob, VSM, (Retd) pro vice chancellor, health sciences, MAHE, shared insights into the impact of chronic wounds and expressed appreciation to the M-FIILIPE Fellows for collaborative wound care.

Delivering the keynote address, Chaitanya Doshi, CEO, KORE Additives Manufacturing and Medical Reconstruction Pvt Ltd, Mumbai, spoke on the role of microfluidics in wound healing and encouraged participants to pursue meaningful innovation. The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr S V Kirthanashri, associate professor and acting head, department of Biotherapeutic Research, MAHE, followed by discussions on strengthening future collaborations.

The workshop reinforced evidence-based healthcare and contributed to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 3 (good health and well-being), 4 (quality education), and 17 (partnerships for the goals).
