Udupi: Man arrested for illegal liquor sale near old bus stand in early morning raid

Udupi, July 4: Acting on credible complaints from the public regarding illegal liquor being sold in the early hours near the city’s old bus stand and other public places, Udupi City police carried out a swift operation and arrested a man.

The arrested person has been identified as Kantyappa Meti (32), a native of Bagalkote.

Police said the accused was spotted arriving on a scooter and allegedly selling liquor packets at the city bus stand. He was immediately taken into custody during the raid. On inspection, police recovered around 4 litres of liquor from his possession.

A case has been registered at the Udupi City police station, and further investigation is under way.

The operation was conducted under the leadership of inspector Mahesh Prasad and sub-inspector Bharatesh, with head constable Basheer also participating.

Police said the raid was carried out with the assistance of civil committee convener Nityananda Olakadu.
