Mangaluru, Jul 14: The department of Practice of Medicine, Father Muller Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital, Deralakatte, Mangaluru, organised the Dr M L Dhawale Seminar 2026 on July 14 at the Father Muller Auditorium.

The programme was conducted in honour of the visionary homoeopath Dr M L Dhawale, celebrating his enduring contributions to homoeopathic education, research and clinical practice. The scientific sessions were delivered by Dr Saptarshi Banerjea, B H M S, MD (Hom), deputy director, Bengal Allen Medical Institute, Kolkata, an internationally renowned homoeopathic physician, teacher, author and researcher.

The programme commenced with a prayer song, followed by the escorting of the dignitaries to the dais. Dr E S J Prabhukiran, principal, welcomed the gathering and reflected upon the institution's journey into its 42nd year.

He recalled that Father Muller Homoeopathic Medical College was inaugurated on the birthday of Dr M L Dhawale, making the annual memorial oration a significant occasion to commemorate his invaluable contributions to homoeopathy.

He highlighted Dr Dhawale's pioneering teaching methodology and noted that the one-day seminar was organised to inspire students and practitioners through his enduring legacy.

The dignitaries inaugurated the programme by lighting the ceremonial lamp, followed by the garlanding of the portraits of Fr Augustus Muller and Dr M L Dhawale, paying homage to two visionary personalities whose contributions continue to inspire the institution and the homoeopathic fraternity.

The occasion also witnessed the felicitation of faculty members and students who had successfully completed their research projects during the preceding year. A total of 9 faculty research projects and 14 student research projects, undertaken under various initiatives including the faculty research projects, Short-Term Studentship in Homoeopathy (STSH), and the Dr M L Dhawale Memorial Student Research Project, were recognised.

The investigators, student researchers and their respective guides were felicitated and presented with completion certificates in appreciation of their commitment to scientific research and their valuable contribution to the advancement of homoeopathy.

Delivering the inaugural address, Dr Ramesh Bhat encouraged the gathering to embrace the spirit of lifelong learning. He emphasised that while medicine continues to evolve with advancing knowledge and technology, the core values of wisdom, compassion, commitment and empathy remain indispensable in-patient care. He reminded the audience that these principles have been passed down through generations of dedicated teachers and encouraged students and faculty members to actively engage in research through the Father Muller Research Centre.

In his administrator's message, Fr Donald Nilesh Crasta reflected upon the significance of the memorial oration through the three dimensions of the past, present and future. He explained that the past reminds us of the beginnings and growth of the institution and the immense contribution of Dr M L Dhawale.

The present carries the responsibility of preserving and enriching this priceless legacy, while the future offers opportunities to strengthen the homoeopathic system and contribute meaningfully to society. He congratulated the research scholars who were felicitated during the programme.

In his presidential address, Fr. Faustine Lucas Lobo, director, Father Muller Charitable Institutions, recalled the 146-year legacy of Father Muller Charitable Institutions, which had humble beginnings under a banyan tree and has today grown into a renowned educational and healthcare network.

Appreciating the timeless relevance of the law of similars, he highlighted the importance of research in strengthening the scientific foundation and wider acceptance of homoeopathy. He encouraged the participants to learn from the distinguished resource person and to pursue meaningful research for the advancement of the profession.

Following the presentation of mementoes to the chief guest and resource person, Dr G Rajachandra, convener, proposed the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the dignitaries, resource person, organisers, faculty members, students and all those who contributed to the successful conduct of the programme. The inaugural ceremony concluded with the Institution Anthem.

The scientific sessions were conducted by Dr Saptarshi Banerjea and comprised three highly interactive and clinically oriented sessions. The first session, 'Cured Cases: Discussion with Comparative Materia Medica', presented successfully treated clinical cases with detailed analysis of remedy selection and comparative materia medica.

The second session, 'Dermatology: Look and Diagnose through Pictures', focused on recognising dermatological conditions through clinical photographs, emphasising practical diagnostic skills. The third session, 'Commonly Used Organopathics in Practice', discussed the indications, scope and clinical utility of commonly used organopathic remedies in day-to-day homoeopathic practice. Each session witnessed active participation from undergraduate and postgraduate students, interns, faculty members and practitioners.

The programme concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session, during which Dr Banerjea addressed numerous clinical queries and shared practical insights from his vast clinical experience.

In his concluding remarks, Dr E S J Prabhukiran thanked the resource person, dignitaries, organising committee and participants for making the Dr M L Dhawale Memorial Seminar 2026 a memorable academic event.

The seminar successfully reinforced the enduring ideals of Dr M L Dhawale, inspiring participants to pursue excellence in clinical practice, research and compassionate patient care while contributing to the continued scientific growth of homoeopathy.

The entire programme was efficiently compered by Dr Parvathynandarajan and Dr Mubeen Jakati, who ensured the smooth conduct of the proceedings throughout the day.
