Washington, Jul 18: The administration of US President Donald Trump has issued a travel alert advising American citizens travelling to or residing in the Middle East to exercise increased caution amid escalating regional tensions and the ongoing conflict involving Iran.
The advisory warns that the security situation across parts of the region remains volatile, with the potential for missile attacks, drone strikes, terrorism and civil unrest. US citizens have been urged to closely monitor local developments, follow the instructions of local authorities and remain in contact with the nearest US embassy or consulate.
The travel alert comes as the United States and Iran continue exchanging strikes across the Middle East, with attacks targeting military installations, energy infrastructure and strategic locations around the Strait of Hormuz.

The US State Department has also advised Americans to review their personal security plans, avoid large public gatherings and demonstrations, keep travel documents updated, and enrol in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive security updates and facilitate assistance during emergencies.
Several airlines have cancelled or rerouted flights to parts of the Middle East following temporary airspace closures and heightened security risks. Authorities have also warned that the security situation could change rapidly, potentially disrupting commercial flights and border crossings.
The advisory follows similar warnings issued in recent days as the regional conflict has intensified, raising concerns over the safety of travellers and expatriates across the Middle East.
