Mangaluru, Aug 19: The Mangaluru city police have arrested two individuals in separate cases for allegedly peddling drugs in the city. The police seized MDMA and ganja from their possession.

In the first incident under the Mangaluru East police station limits on August 18, the police arrested a man for selling MDMA in an auto-rickshaw on the service road leading from Pumpwell to Nanthoor. The accused has been identified as Mohammed Irshad (30), a resident of Varkady in Kerala.

Acting on a reliable tip-off, the police raided the spot and seized 13.69 grams of MDMA worth Rs 1.36 lac, cash, and the auto-rickshaw used for the crime. The total value of the seized goods is estimated at Rs 2,94,500. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act at the Mangaluru East police station. The accused was produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.

In the second case under the Surathkal police station limits, the police arrested a man for supplying ganja to college students. The accused, Nithin Krishnan (27), a native of Kannur in Kerala and currently residing in Konchady, Mangaluru, was working as a therapist at an Ayurveda clinic near the Padavu ground in Kadri.

His arrest followed the interrogation of another accused, Ashwin Xavier (24), who was apprehended on August 17 for consuming ganja. Xavier directed the police to Krishnan, the supplier. On August 18, the police arrested Krishnan and seized 1.206 kg of ganja worth Rs 60,000, a KTM motorcycle bearing registration number KL-86-2397, and a mobile phone. A case was registered at the Surathkal police station under the NDPS Act. The accused was remanded to judicial custody after being produced before the court.
