Mangaluru, Sep 5: From classrooms that shape young minds to mentors who inspire dreams beyond textbooks, Teachers’ Day 2026 at Expert PU College, Kodialbail, was a heartfelt celebration of the educators who make a lasting difference in the lives of their students. The occasion brought together students, teachers and staff in an atmosphere of gratitude and joy, honoring the dedication, discipline and unwavering commitment that lie at the heart of teaching.
Dr Ravish Thunga, president of Dr Thunga’s Manaswini Hospital, graced the occasion as the chief guest and was honored with the title of teacher exemplary in recognition of his lifelong commitment to nurturing and inspiring young minds. Beginning his address with the sacred invocation “Gurubhyo Namaha,” Dr Thunga expressed his joy at being part of the Guru Vandana programme and appreciated the dedicated team of teachers who contribute to shaping students in an ever-changing world.
Addressing the students, he emphasised the importance of passion, effort and perseverance in achieving one’s goals. Reflecting on success, he said, “IQ is nothing if you don’t put effort in your life.” Speaking about Kriya and Karma, he highlighted the importance of caring for one’s family and fulfilling one’s responsibilities with passion and purpose.
The celebration commenced with a solemn lamp-lighting ceremony and a floral tribute to Dr S Radhakrishnan, whose birth anniversary is observed as Teachers’ Day in India. This was followed by a soulful rendition of Guru Vandana, with students invoking the revered Sanskrit shloka “Gurur Brahma, Gurur Vishnu, Gurur Devo Maheshwara,” paying tribute to the timeless role of the guru as a guide and mentor.
Chairman Prof Narendra L Nayak paid tribute to the teaching fraternity, describing dedicated teachers as a “real asset to society” and expressing his pride in the team of educators at Expert. Recalling his long-standing association with Dr Ravish Thunga, he spoke fondly of their decades long journey since their childhood days. Prof Nayak acknowledged the contribution of Dr Thunga’s Manaswini Hospital to mental healthcare in Mangaluru.
Highlighting the role of discipline in achieving excellence, Prof Nayak said, “The core mantra is to be disciplined in life.” He attributed the remarkable achievements of Expert students - including their success in medical and government institutions—to the collective dedication of teachers and students. Urging students to remain lifelong learners, he added that “the best way to learn is to teach,” encouraging them to seek guidance from their teachers, overcome negligence and nurture the enthusiasm to succeed.
Vice chairperson Dr Ushaprabha N Nayak reflected on the deeper meaning of teaching, saying, “Teaching is not just a profession; it is a lifestyle.” Recalling the teachers who shaped her own journey, she reminded students that one may retire from a profession, but “one can never retire from being a student.” She spoke of the immense preparation, responsibility and pressure that teachers carry beyond the classroom, emphasising that teaching is far from a 9-to-5 job. She urged students to honour their teachers’ efforts by listening attentively, completing their work on time and showing them fairness, respect and gratitude.
Coaching head and Kannada lecturer Karunakar Balkur shared his experiences from his years of teaching at Expert, adding a personal perspective to the celebration and reflecting on the journey of educators and their bond with students.

He urged them to make the best use of the opportunities provided by the institution, work hard, and strive for excellence so that they can achieve their dreams and build a successful future.
The formal programme was compered by Khushi Singh and Shreya Hegde. Student Council president Sairaj K Ghogare delivered the welcome address, while secretary Priyaana P Bekal proposed the vote of thanks. The event was attended by principal Ramachandra Bhat, college IT director Ankush N Nayak, architect Deepika A Nayak, academic committee member B Vinay Kumar, assistant coaching head Pramod Kini, and members of the teaching and coaching staff.
