Dr Ronald Colaco’s Aldovia Bengaluru earns top FSSAI hygiene rating amid food safety scrutiny

Former Clarks Exotica continues its transformation with international recognition and highest ‘Excellent’ hygiene rating

Media Release

Bengaluru, Sep 7: At a time when food safety and hygiene standards across the hospitality industry are receiving increased attention and at a time when most of the 5-star Hotels and Clubs have failed in the prescribed food safety and hygiene standards, Aldovia Resort & Convention, Bengaluru, has achieved a significant distinction by securing the highest possible ‘Excellent’ rating under the FSSAI Hygiene Rating programme.

The prestigious hygiene rating follows an audit conducted by the HRAA on August 20, adding another milestone to the journey of the Bengaluru property, which was until recently known as Clarks Exotica Convention Resort & Spa.

The resort has also recently earned international recognition at the WORLDCOB Bizz Awards 2026 in Vienna, Austria, where it was conferred the ‘World Business Leader’ award as well as the ‘Recognition of Inspirational Company’. The awards were presented at the InterContinental Wien on August 25.

Food safety inspection brings appreciation

The FSSAI recognition assumes particular significance in the backdrop of intensified food-safety inspections being carried out at hotels, clubs and restaurants in and around Bengaluru.

During a Food Safety & Drug Administration inspection at Aldovia on August 8, the inspection team reviewed the establishment's food safety systems, records, documentation and operational practices.

While such inspections are primarily intended to ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene requirements, Aldovia said the inspection team appreciated the systematic maintenance of its food safety records and documentation, as well as the standards and processes implemented at the property.

For a large hospitality establishment serving guests and hosting major events, maintaining food safety is not merely about meeting regulatory requirements. It involves consistent systems, documentation, monitoring and accountability across multiple operational areas.

The subsequent five-star ‘Excellent’ hygiene rating under the FSSAI Hygiene Rating programme provides an independent recognition of those efforts.

From Clarks Exotica to Aldovia

The achievement comes at an important phase in the property's evolution.

The well-known Bengaluru hospitality destination, which operated for nearly two decades as Clarks Exotica Convention Resort & Spa, was rebranded as Aldovia Resort & Convention in 2026 as the property moved towards developing an independent, owner-led hospitality brand.

The ownership continues with the Colaco family, led by Dr Ronald Colaco, with Nigel Colaco and Randal Colaco also involved in the leadership of the property. The transition has allowed the establishment to develop its own identity while building on the reputation and experience accumulated over nearly two decades.

Located in Swiss Town near the International Airport, Bengaluru and spread across approximately 70 acres of greenery, the property continues to position itself as a major destination for leisure stays, hospitality and large-scale conventions.

A new name, same commitment to standards

For Aldovia, the twin recognition in food safety and international business excellence comes at a significant moment.

The Vienna awards recognise the organisation's broader standards of business excellence, leadership and hospitality, while the FSSAI hygiene rating focuses on one of the most fundamental responsibilities of any hospitality establishment: ensuring safe and hygienic food practices.

Together, the recognitions underline the property's effort to build its new identity around quality, systems and consistency, rather than relying solely on its legacy as a well-known five-star destination.

Dr Ronald Colaco, owner of Aldovia Resort & Convention, said the recognition was particularly gratifying at a time when food safety and hygiene had become increasingly important across the hospitality industry.

The recent achievements mark a promising new chapter for Aldovia as it moves forward under its new identity, carrying with it the experience of its Clarks Exotica legacy while seeking to establish itself as an independent hospitality brand with standards that meet both national and international expectations.
