Mangaluru, Oct 10: The railway section between Mangaluru and Subrahmanya Road, a key connectivity link in Dakshina Kannada district, has achieved a new milestone in passenger and commercial traffic. Around 16.38 lac passengers travelled through nine stations on the section between January 2025 and August 2026, generating revenue of Rs 31.31 crore for the Railway Department in just 20 months.

Subrahmanya Road railway station, which provides connectivity to Kukke Subrahmanya and Dharmasthala, accounted for the largest share of the total figures.

Around 8.05 lac passengers travelled through this station alone, accounting for 49% of the total passenger traffic. Bantwal station, which ranked third, recorded around 2.15 lac passengers and generated revenue of Rs 4.69 crore. Together, these three major stations accounted for around 87% of the passenger traffic in the section, with approximately 14.25 lac passengers.

The rural stations on the Bengaluru-Mangaluru route, including Kaniyur, which recorded 31,700 passengers, Kodimbala with 26,600 passengers, Edamangala, Bajakare, Neralakatte and Narimogaru, also contributed revenue, though on a smaller scale.

Overall, 10.51 lac unreserved and 5.87 lac reserved passengers travelled through the nine stations during the period. More than 1.06 lac platform tickets were also sold, highlighting the popularity and importance of the railway section.
