Israeli strike kills woman in Gaza as Iran executes man accused of armed operation

Gaza, Oct 14: An Israeli strike on an apartment in Gaza City killed a woman early Wednesday, according to officials at Shifa Hospital, while Iran executed a man accused of carrying out an armed operation in support of exiled former Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi.

The Israeli military said it had targeted a Hamas militant but was still assessing the outcome of the strike. It did not provide further details.

More than a year after a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas came into effect, Israeli strikes continue to kill Palestinians in the enclave, with attacks reported almost daily.

According to Gaza's Health Ministry, more than 1,490 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire since the ceasefire began. United Nations agencies and independent experts generally consider the ministry's figures reliable. The ministry has not provided a breakdown of civilian and militant deaths but says women and children account for most of those killed.

Meanwhile, Iran on Wednesday executed Ali Sina Mostafavi, who was accused of carrying out an armed operation against the country's ruling establishment in support of Pahlavi.

Mizan, an outlet affiliated with Iran's judiciary, reported that Mostafavi had opened fire during the Iran war, injuring several people, including a child, in the southeastern city of Kerman.

Executions of individuals facing similar charges have drawn international condemnation. United Nations experts earlier this month urged Iran to halt all executions.
