Shah Rukh Khan Detained Again at NYK Airport

SRK's Detention: India to Take up Issue with US

New Delhi, Apr 13 (IANS): India Friday asserted it will take up the issue of Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan's detention at a New York airport with the US authorities and made it clear to Washington that "a policy of detention and apology" cannot continue.

External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna has asked India's Ambassador to the US Nirupama Rao to take up the matter with the US authorities, said sources in India's external affairs ministry here.

He also made it clear that this policy of detention and apology by the US cannot continue, the sources said.

Shah Rukh was detained at New York's White Plains airport for two hours Thursday as he arrived to visit Yale University, where he was honoured as a Chubb Fellow. The actor, who was detained by the immigration authorities, was allowed to go only after his hosts intervened and took up the issue with the Department of Homeland Security in Washington, according to sources.

Subsequently, the US customs and border protection authorities expressed "profound" apologies over Khan's detention.

Before addressing the students at Yale University after joining the roster of Yale University's Chubb Fellows, one of the Ivy League institution's highest honours, for promoting human ideals through art, Shah Rukh recalled he was "detained" at the airport "as always happens".

In August 2009 also, Khan was stopped at the Newark Airport and was released after two hours at the intervention of the Indian consulate in New York.

New York, Apr 13 (PTI): Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who has millions of fans in India and around the world, was detained at New York's White Plains airport for two hours Thursday as he arrived to visit Yale University, where he was honoured as a Chubb Fellow.

Khan, who was detained by the immigration authorities, was allowed to go only after his hosts intervened and took up the issue with the Department of Homeland Security in Washington, according to sources.

As part of the Yale Chubb Fellowship, Khan later attended a reception and dinner at Timothy Dwight College at New Haven Connecticut with over 120 Yale students including members of the South Asian Society at Yale, before taking a return flight Thursday night.

Before addressing the students at Yale University after joining the roster of Yale University's Chubb Fellows, one of the Ivy League institution's highest honours, for promoting human ideals through art, Khan recalled he was "detained" at the airport "as always happens".

Due to Khan's detention at the airport, the Yale event in New Haven started an hour late.

In August 2009 also, Khan was stopped at the Newark Airport and was released after two hours at the intervention of the Indian consulate in New York.

"I was really hassled at the American Airport because of my name being Khan...It was absolutely uncalled for...I felt angry and humiliated," said Shah Rukh, who was then heading towards Chicago to participate in an Independence Day celebration event.

"It is a Muslim name and I think the name is common on their checklist," he had then said.

The Chubb Fellowship is devoted to encouraging and aiding Yale students interested in the operations of government and in public service. Each year three or four distinguished men and women have been appointed as visiting Chubb Fellows.

Former Chubb Fellows include presidents George W. Bush, Ronald Reagan, and Jimmy Carter; authors Octavio Paz, Carlos Fuentes, and Toni Morrison; filmmaker Sofia Coppola; architect Frank Gehry; choreographer Mikhail Baryshnikov; and journalist Walter Cronkite.

IS SHAH RUKH KHAN ABOVE THE LAW!!!!

I was told that in US "No fly list" the most common last name of is Khan.

The most common last name of people caught with drugs at US airports is Khan. The drug lords who ship drugs are also Khan

Ask any senior Banker what is the most common last name of money launderers from the subcontinent is Khan.

Any passenger traveling to the US can apply and go through a preliminary background check and after getting clearance, he will be provided with a special card, that is renewable every year and then he could pass all US ports with that card.

Hence, if the US agents are doing their job by checking out the credentials of and arriving passenger Shah Rukh Khan what is wrong with that? If he is so unhappy why does he want to go there?

We are the only fools who do hero worshipping. This should be stopped. Law should be same for famous or not famous personalities. These cricketer's, film stars and politician's are among ourselves. They should not be given any preferencial treatment. If a famous cricketer imports luxury car from foreign country, our government will give tax exemption where as poor salaried person's are taxed. This is hypocricy. Well done US airport officials.

The TSA employees are a group of highly tense people-the inspection has no uniformity and each employee  acts at their own discretion. My  8 year old grandson was specially screended while boarding from a small airport because of the shoes,  but at the return trip from a big airport, nobody bothered him with the same shoes. Even those old people on the wheel chairs are ed for special
screening, but the old and young are going to get some relief from hard screening. Even as a senior U.S.citizen, I have been chosen for special screening many times may be due to my brown skin and foreign look.

The TSA has isolated even late Senator Edward Kenneday for special pat down. Kerala Movie star
Mammootty was questioned for more than 2 hours at the Kennedy airport and the Indian Consulate had to interfere to solve the problem. Flying is far safer than any other method of travel, but the boarding and landing are  tense moments for all in recent times.

US Immigration officials do not discriminate anyone including their own officials (includes senators, governors, etc) unless they have some information from homeland security. If some one travels often to countries (Pakistan, Dubai, etc) which US considers security risk they will be interrogated. Since this is the second time Shahrukh is detained, the US homeland security has some information regarding Shahrukh. He is lucky this time they didn't detain him for a day or two.

The issue here is not whether it's SRK or anybody...the issue is...why should any American airport detain anybody just because the surname is Khan? There are millions of Khans across the world and infact the most wanted Osama was not a Khan! It shows even so-called civilized US too is narrow-minded and illiterate. We have all kinds of discrimination...and this one adds to that list...

Even if this joker is detained for 20 years, why should 1.20 billion people bother? Media has no other news when pressing problem is economy and day to day struggling. Fullish journalism. Any news of Cricket, Bollywood and Politicians is irrevelant when 1.20 billion people have jobs / earnings headaches
