Mumbai: Thiya Samaj ® Celebrates ‘Bisu Kani–2012’

Mumbai, Apr 16: “Festivals are not meant for mere celebrations.  They have their own cultural significance which is being followed by different communities across the country. Rural people migrated to metros out of necessity seeking a better future, but continued the traditional practices in their daily living out of a sense of belonging.  The traditions and customs have to be passed on to the new generation of youth,” said Chandrashekar Belchada, president, Thiya Samaj ®.

He was speaking after inaugurating ‘Bisu Kani–2012’, a traditional celebration of Bisu, at Siddi Vinayaka Temple auditorium, Bandrekarwadi, Sita Nagar, Jogeshwari (East), on Saturday April 14.  It was organized by Thiya Samaj ® western zone regional committee.

Religious and cultural programmes including devotional music were held on the occasion.

Executive committee member Vishwanath U K, honorary secretary Babu Ail, honorary treasurer Ramesh N Ullal, west zone regional committee executive president Narayan K Salian, vice-president Gangadhar Kalladi, women’s wing president Chandra M Suvarna, ‘Thiya Jyoti’ monthly bulletin honorary editor Sridar Suvarna, and sub-editor Babu Belchada were present on the occasion.
