Mangalore, May 13: It is the third week since stunt master Raam Shetty’s ambititious Tulu film “Bangarada Kural” (golden bloom) has been released and if public response is anything to go by Raam Shetty must be having the last laugh.  He has proved the doubters wrong as the movie has withstood competition from another Tulu movie released just a week after,  to hold on its own making people flock to theatres with family.    The good news is that both the movies– Bangarada Kural, a family melodrama with a strong spiritual intonation and “Aamait Asal Eemait Kusal”, a complete and clean comedy, has found takers in Tulunadu.

Though theme of movie is quite common and time-tested it has its moments of brilliance and is sure to appeal to all sections especially to women.

Bangarada Kural, produced and directed by Raam Shetty under the banner “Anand Films” stands out  with the novelty factor in the form of fighting sequences as they succeed in making the viewers sit on the edge of the seats.   It is the first digital graded Tulu cinema and the the special graphic effects provide technical brilliance to the movie with some breathtaking make-believe kind of fighting scenes.  It is a well packaged film made with the intent of appealing to people of all religious faiths.  There is enough scope for emotions, fights, melodrama and tears and finally all is well, thanks to the divine faith.

The movie revolves around the theme 'believe in good and all malevolence come to an end’.  Shiv (Shivadhvaj) is a happy-go-lucky youngster of a business family who meets his dream girl Ambika (Paki Hegde) and love blossoms resulting in their tying the knot.  Shiv tries to get into family business along with his two brothers after marriage but due to a misunderstanding is forced to leave the house leaving his newly married wife back home to live among his two monstrous sisters-in-law. How Shiv becomes a rich man and how the devotion and faith of Ambika in goddess Annapoorneshwari helps her to overcome her abundant difficulties including bringing back her husband, forms the crux of the movie. The movie extols the virtues of women.

There are altogether seven songs, mostly devotional and 4 fighting sequences.  Music Director V Manohar has done a good job in incorporating local sentiments in the songs keeping in tune with the theme of the movie.   The duet “va onji dina ini” is quite melodious and so is the title song which is quite impressive.

Hero of the movie Shivadhwaj, the versatile actor comes out good both in emotive and fighting sequences.  He has done full justice to his role though he would have looked younger and better if he had lost a little weight.  However, it is Paki Hegde, the Bhojpuri actress who does full justice to her role as the Bangarada Kural, who brings with her the virtues of goodness. As Ambika, the devotee of Annapoorneshwari, Paki Hegde has got into the character with the ease of a thorough pro.  She has given a stupendous performance and she has a kind of naive vulnerability that endears her to the audience.  Both the lead actors dish out a power-packed performance.

Raam Shetty’s son Anand Shetty has made his debut as the villain in the movie.  But his role is quite limited except, showcasing his fighting talent. Comedian Aravind Bolar has a shrot role as a comedian.  The film stars  supporting artistes like Anand Shetty, Kishori Ballal, Shobha Rai, Namrata Hegde, Suresh, Dinesh Attavar, Vasu Shetty, Tonese Vijay Kumar Shetty, Bhagya Rai, Jyothi Rai, Ashiwini etc,. Given their background in Tulu theatre all the other artistes have given a restrained performance.  The effort to show religious harmony with the comedy characters that includes Catholic and Muslim along with others, is archaic and doesn’t quite fit into the film story.    The movie is shot in Someshwar, Moodbidri, Bajpe and in Mumbai.  The locales of Someshwar have been captured well.

Bangarada Kural has been packaged well and is a typical Indian movie with all necessary ingredients that should surely bring back the a good box office return  and smile on the face of Raam Shetty and his team.
