Mangalore: Teenage Boy Feared Drowned at Kuthar

In a tragic incident, a 13-year-old boy, who along with his friends had gone out to play on Monday June 2 evening, was feared drowned in a stream at Amblamogaru, Majaluthota, in the region of Kuthar. The search operation in the muddy water continued on Tuesday night to trace the missing body.

The boy has been identified as Muhammad Hafeez, son of Muhammad Ali of Katipalla. He was staying at his grandmother’s house in Majal Thota and was a student of St Sebastian School, Thokkottu.

Source said that as there was a holiday on Monday for the Madrasa school, Hafeez along with his friends Shoukath, Noufal and Shafeeq went to play in the water. While other boys reached home by 7.30 pm, Hafeez did not return home until 9 pm. When the parents enquired, they said that he went missing in the water.

When the news spread across the village, dozens of villagers came to the spot to help in the rescue operation.
 
A search operation was conducted by the firefighters and swimmers to find the missing boy. All efforts went in vain as they could not retrieve or locate the boy. They will continue the operation till they find him.
 
Ullal inspector Manjunath Shetty, Konaje SI Shiva Prakash and ASP Jaganath stayed late night to help with the operation.
 
MLA UT Kadar arrived at the spot and consoled the family.
 
The stream in Amblamogaru has been tagged as a dangerous spot. During the monsoon season, the water level increases and is said to be risky for children.
