Udupi: ICYM Mother of Sorrows Church Celebrates Parents’ Day

Udupi, Aug 1: ICYM Udupi celebrated Parents day recently. Fr Anil Joel D’Souza, assistant parish priest, celebrated the festive mass and offered a special prayer for the parents. Fr Valerian D’Silva, CAP, preached the homily.

A get together was arranged at the St Mary’s school hall after the mass. The program was inaugurated with a special prayer service conducted by Renal D’Souza, Shannon Menezes and the other ICYM members. Winston Martis welcomed the gathering. Ryan Menezes compered the ceremony.

“Children don’t choose their parents; they are a gift from God to the children as children are to them.” Winola Cutinho and Andria D’Souza in a monologue shared their experiences of the parents and children, followed by gifting their parents with tokens of gratitude.

Karen and group sang a wonderful song wishing their parents. An entertaining dance was performed by Raina Saldanha and group. A skit by Daren Pinto and group regarding the parent and child relation based on the bible was performed.

Lydwin Pinto, chief guest and sponsor of the program spoke on the responsibilities of a parent and youth. Gladis Saldanha shared her personal experience on parenting.

A few games were conducted by Nikita Menezes and Walter D’Souza, animator ICYM, in which the parents actively participated. Prizes were distributed. Each family was given a memento in remembrance of this day. Carol D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks.

The assistant parish priest greeted and craved God’s blessings on everyone gathered. All enjoyed the delicious breakfast prepared by Zoe Pereira caterers in the hall premises.

Sunil Fernandes, president of ICYM and Juveral Saldanha, secretary ICYM coordinated the whole program in a beautiful manner. It was one of the most memorable events for the parents and the youth gathered.
