Kuwait: GVOM-3 Race Gets Hotter - Semi-finals on Sep 21

Kuwait, Sep 13: After the stupendous success of two seasons of 'Gulf Voice of Mangalore' - a mega Konkani singing talent hunt show by Youth Recreation Center, Kuwait is all geared up to host the semi-finals of GVOM Season 3 on September 21 at the American International School auditorium from 5 pm.

One male and one female finalist from Kuwait will be selected on this day and they will be participating in the grand finale to be held in Doha, Qatar, on October 19, 2012 for the coveted title of GVOM 3.
 
"Youth Recreation Centre” (Rising Stars), is one of the popular and oldest sports club in Kuwait and has completed 34 successful years of its existence. ‘YRC’ is registered with Kuwait Indian Football Federation and also with Indian Embassy in Kuwait. Konkani music’s famous personalities Adrian Gomes, Babita D’Sa and Ivan Sequeira will be the judges for the event.

After the competition visiting artistes Ivan Sequeira and Babitha D'Sa along with local singers Gladys Lorena and Joylene Gonsalves will render memorable melodies. Rib-tickling comedy by visiting artistes Jerry and Duje, foot-tapping dances by local artistes and live music by Kuwait's famous Konkani musicians under the leadership of Kiran Gonsalves will add a dash of colour to the event.

Ivan A Sequeira

Born on January 20, 1955, Ivan started his singing carrier at the age of 7 with guidance from Konkani composer and guitarist the late Henry T D’Souza. He has won many prizes in school and competitions organized by Konkani Natak Sabha Mangalore. He was part of Wilfy Rebimbus troupe since 1970 and sung many songs for his albums. He has sung in 4 CD albums produced by J D Music Company with Nephie Rod.



Babita D'Sa

Born on January 14, 1959, Babitha started her singing career from childhood in church choir and has won many prizes in inter-parish competitions organized by Konkani Natak Sabha Mangalore. She got a break when she sung ‘Voyla Molbar’ with Prem Kumar in Wilfy Rebimbus' troupe at the age of 15 years. From then on she has actively performed for 28 years in Wilfy Nites held in India, Kuwait, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Muscat, Bahrain and Doha and also rendered her melodious voice for Wilfy’s 33 albums and 6 devotional albums.

Babita has also sung for Aakashvani, Doordarshan, Konkani Movie ‘Bogsane’ and many CDs including those released by Fr Rony Serrao, Fr Walter Albuquerque, Stany Mendonca, C L Bendur and Karvali Konkans. She has acted in a musical drama “Ali Baba and 40 Thieves”. On the occasion of 159th Wilfy Nite Wilfy and Meena on behalf of United Youngsters felicitated and honoured Babita for her contribution to the group with a Gold medal. Recently, she was honored by Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy for her contribution towards Konkani language.



Adrian Gomes

Born on September 2, Adrian Gomes is a BE graduate in electronics and communications along and a diploma holder in telecommunication engineering. He started his music career by learning accordion from Fr Albuqerque at Fathima Retreat house. Later he mastered Organ, Guitar, Drums and Trumpet. He has played Trumpet and Drums for Kalakaar and Toofaan Orchestra in Bombay, Ashok Charan Orchestra Konkani Musical Nites of Claud D’souza, Eric Ozario in and various Konkani cassettes in Mangalore. He has composed the music and played Keyboards, Trumpet, Accordian and Harmonica in Konkani, Hindi and Bengali albums in Kuwait and released 3 Konkani Instrumental audio cassettes named “A Tribute to the Konkani Composers.”

Adrian has played for most of the Konkani, Tulu, Kannada, Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Telegu, Punjabi shows in Kuwait and also in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Bahrain and Qatar. He has been leading the orchestra and performing for several Hindi, Malayalam and Tamil playback singers namely Dr P Susheela, Mano, Anuradha Sriram, Srinivasan, Vasundara Das, Biju Narayan, music director Deva, Harini, Unni Menon, Min MINI and several others visiting Kuwait.

He has also organized the shows, conducted the orchestra and played instruments for Konkani Nites of Wilfy Rebimbus, Henry D’souza, Melwyn Peris, Claud D’souza and Wilson Olivera. He has been bestowed with the titles “Sangeeth Vazanthran Shilpi” and “Konkan Tansen” by USWAS – Dubai in and Kuwait Konkans. Adrian is popularly known as AR Rehman of Konkani for his expertise in the musical field.



Jerry Duje

Jerry Rasquinha came to lime light when he bagged ‘Best Actor’ first place in the inter parish Kala Sampath drama competition , for his role of ‘novro’ in A. T. Lobo’s ‘Novro’ Drama. He has written short stories, articles, poetry and poetry related essays for almost most of the Konkani periodicalsand www. konkanipoetry.com. He has compered more than fifty Melwyn Peris and Sangheeth Samrat Henry D’Souza nites. He has bagged many prizes for his excellent performance in many a dramas.

Joseph Pinto(Duje)began his career as a singer and sung for Melwyn Peris, Henry D’Souza, Mandd Sobhann and many other Konkani composers. He has rendered his voice for almost 185 CD’s as well as Konkani cassettes. He performs in ‘gumtam’ troupe and comperes weddings and other ceremonies in and around Mangalore. Duje has associated with Jerry Rasquinha and the humorous duo has been very well received by Konkani people both in Mangalore and Gulf.



Uttam Simon Menezes

Hailing from Bendur parish, Uttam is a professional compere and singer. As a compere he has done more than 75 major shows in India, UAE and Qatar in Konkani, English, Kannada, Hindi and Tulu. As a singer he has sung in many shows in dubai and India. He has also rendered his voice in the Vincent Fernandes Albums ‘mogachin Lahran'. He has published his many poems in Kutam paper and websites like konkanipoetry.com, mangalorean.com and kittall.com.


Started in 2008, Konkani singing talent hunt show Gulf Voice of Mangalore is the biggest Konkani reality show in Middle East. The main aim of this competition is to bring out the hidden singing talents and give them a platform for their talent. Both GVOM season 1 in Kuwait and season 2 in Dubai created sensation among Mangaloreans worldwide. Kuwait's singing talents have previously won the titles of GVOM Season 1 (Vinay Lewis), female title winner of GVOM Season 2 (Gladys Lorenha) and also male runner-up (Warren D’Souza) of GVOM Season 2.
