New Delhi, Oct 8 (PTI): Singer-composer Adnan Sami is enjoying all the attention that is being bestowed on him post his incredible weight loss and says his life has taken a remarkable turn.
"My journey from fat to fit is remarkable. My life has changed a lot. I have been getting a lot of opportunities when it comes to my career.
And, moreover my standard of living has changed, my attitude towards life has changed. I am leading a very healthy life and health is indeed wealth," Adnan, who was in the city to perform at the Kingdom of Dreams for their second anniversary, told PTI.
The 39-year-old British-born Pakistani singer currently works and lives in Mumbai. He said that he decided to shed kilos not for better career opportunities or to impress his lady love but solely for health reasons.
"A lot was said that I had lost weight because there was a mystery woman in my life or because I wanted to be a hero and so on but I want to clarify that it was health reasons that made me lose weight. My doctor had given me an ultimatum, it was a do or die situation for me," he added.
Adnan, who previously weighed 230 kilos, now stands fit at 85 kilos. He was the butt of joke among people for long but the singer said that it never affected him so much.
"Even when I was so heavy I was not apologetic about it. I know I was the butt of all jokes. People took jibes at my weight. But if you are in a public profession, you will always be scrutinised. I realised that people will always find ways to bring me down. You have to be very thick skinned," he said.
Post his weight loss, Adnan has been flooded with film offers and has also signed two films, which are set to go on floors next year. He made his acting debut back in 1995 with Pakistani film "Sargam" directed by Syed Noor, which also starred his ex-wife Zeba Bakhtiar.
"I have signed two films. Post my weight loss, I was getting a lot of film scripts but mostly were roles of a musician, which were very cliched and predictable. I did not want to play such role because then where would the acting come in my performance.
"I will play the lead in both the films that I am doing, which are complete family entertainers, out and out commercial films," he said.
Asked if he will also compose music for the films, he said, "I am not one of those who has to be taken as a package. I made it clear to the director that if he wnats me to compose I will and if not then I have no issues either. But as far as singing is concerned, I realsise that people will not accept someone else's voice on me and so singing is fine."
