Mumbai, Nov 9: The members of St Joseph's Welfare Association, a Konkani organization of Mira Road parish achieved a new milestone in fulfilling their long-cherished dream to stage a professional drama by the members of their own association.

"Bokro" drama written by Nellu Permannur was staged on recently at the packed Mira Church ground by the association members. With their excellent acting they proved that anyone can become a good actor if one has determination.

The programme started with a dance by Vineesha D'Costa. The director of the drama Prasanna Niddodi introduced the artistes and the people who worked behind the stage. writer Nellu Permannur had been in the premises for a week to give a final shape to his brainchild.

Storyline

A hospital watchman's  wife gives birth to a baby boy. But his wife dies while giving birth due to brain haemorrhage. This watchman has an eye on his neighbour's wife.

Incidentally, the neighbour's wife too gives birth to a child in the same ward but the child dies. Knowing that the child was dead and finding a baby boy in the next bed, she switches the dead body of her newborn with the neighbour's new born baby boy. But when the watchman of the hospital finds his wife dead and a dead child besides her, he too exchanges the babies with the help of the staff nurse. With this plan, he attempts to cast a net on the neighbour's wife.

He also wants to take revenge on this little baby. He does not give his own son proper education and medication. The son grows but with a sickness of the brain acquired from his mother. The story winds up when the watchman comes to know that this boy was none other than his own son, but by then it is too late as the son is on his deathbed due to lack of medication.

The actors Mark Rozario (Harry), Celestine Casteliono (Mary), Violet D'Souza (Jyothi), Rony Lobo (Paulu),  Reevan D'Souza (Annu), Diago Rodrigues (Charlie), Helen Noronha (Lilly), Donald D'Souza (Mothi), Sofia D'Sa (Preeti), Arun Noronha (Lori), Lawrence Mathias
(David) played their roles beautifully.

Music by Lancy added charm to the play. Rony D'Souza and Arun Rodrigues worked behind the scenes. Prasanna Niddodi directed the drama and Nellu Permannur authored the play.

The performances of all the artistes, especially young Reevan D'Souza was praiseworthy.

During the stage programme parish priest Fr Dominic Vas, Malaika Appliances chairman Gilbert Baptist , Norona Estate proprietor-chairman Robert Noronha, Steader International chairman Johnson D'Souza, Kenny from Fair Deal Estate Agency, Dennis Menezes  from RGB Vision, and Nellu Permannur were present at the dais. Fr Dominic Vas honoured Nellu Permannur with a shawl. He also released his new Konkani telefilm 'Tri Moorkh'.

Canute Menezes proposed vote of thanks and Prasanna Niddodi compered the programme beautifully.
